23 sixth graders study earth history
The sixth graders studied the history of the Earth by making a scaled timeline from the Big Bang to current day. They learned about ancient civilizations in Social Studies class, then put this in perspective, using the timeline to place the Mayans and Aztecs within the history of the planet. Then, they joined the 7th graders for a trip to Dinosaur Park, a Smithsonian archeological dig in Laurel, MD. Once there, Dr. Peter Kranz showed them some fossils that he and his team had found on site and explained what that land might have looked like when dinosaurs lived there. Then, the students had a chance to look for fossils and help the archeologist sort through some potential finds.
