17 Fifth graders speed up
Students went outside to compete in five events: jump rope, tandem jump rope, basketball free throws, monkey bars, and football pass-catch to determine their rate. All of the students were timed in one-minute intervals to determine their unit rate for each event. After each student rotated through five stations, we returned back to the classroom to calculate and compare their unit rate amongst their peers. Using our large outdoor space really gives students the opportunity to move, learn, and feel at home in nature. See PDF below for supporting document.

17 Fifth graders get inspired by nature on campus
In Language Arts, students were directed outside to find their favorite spot on campus. Then, they had to complete a writing prompt which asked them to describe their favorite place and use details to explain why they like it so much.
